An itch on your nose.

A un-responded to text message.

A neck that needs to pop.

A funny headache behind your eye.

Something misspoken in a conversation.

Can you leave these things be?

Are you able to sit with the discomfort they cause?

Can the practice of noticing without judgement lead to big breakthroughs in your growth?

Oftentimes in a guided meditation practice, you will be asked to leave things alone, to listen or feel without judgement. Can you notice the sound of the train going by outside with curiosity rather than annoyance? I’ve come to realize how powerful and practical this is. It’s useful and it’s always there for you to get reps in. There are an infinite number of opportunities to practice “allowing” in your life. I believe the more space we can create between the stimulus and the response the better and more effective we will be in our lives.

By allowing discomfort we invite in patience and courage and we build trust in ourselves that we can tolerate the difficulties of life with resilience and confidence.
