The word Argument comes from the Latin word arguere which means “make clear, prove, accuse”. In Middle English, it means, “process of reasoning”. Or the more modern definition is “an exchange of diverging or opposing views”.

Maybe the foundation of a healthy relationship is argument. When we engage with most people we can assume their ideas, experiences, and or beliefs are different than ours. This might be an opportunity to grow with them, rather than turn our backs to them. When we don’t see eye to eye with someone else, or when we want to be very clear about our values, or when we are in the process of getting on the same page with someone else, we are arguing, and maybe that’s okay. It’s a shame, we do a lot of arguing with very poor results. Or we choose to argue to be right, rather than having “an exchange of diverging or opposing views” and listening to what the other person has to say.

Done well, arguing could be sharing.
