Another year is in the books. Another 365. Another 52. Another 8,760. Another 525,600. Can you believe there are 525,600 minutes in a year? That’s a lot of time, and yet where does it all go? Did you live any of those minutes, days or hours to the fullest? How much time did you spend worrying about things that never came to pass?

If you’re like me, you might have swung somewhere on the continuum from moments of happiness, peace and joy to moments of confusion, loss and despair. Hey, it’s only natural. We are human beings. Complex. Incredible. Complicated. Phenomenal. Flawed.

I’m optimistic for 2025. Even if it feels like the world is on fire and the walls are crashing down, what we have a say in, is our response. How do we want to experience this experience?

Seems like a pretty good question to ask, huh?

Here are some things we can choose: We can love the ones we are with. We can introduce ourselves to a stranger. We can offer kind words to our enemies. We can be loving and gentle to plants and animals. We can take on the project that needs to be done. We can solve the problem that needs to be solved. We can let the perceived disputes go. We can learn to live with ourselves and our mistakes. We can try our hand at a new profession or we can double down and try harder at our current one.

The possibilities are endless. And with possibilities, inevitably come disappointments, obstacles, setbacks, and failures. All the things that keep us on the sidelines as the opportunities come and go. What if I fail? What if I’m not good enough? Maybe I don’t deserve to feel good?

The longer I am on this earth, the more I have learned to embrace the failures (even though it can be painful). I am finding the best lessons come in the hardest of times. If we become less attached to the failure, we can grow. Let’s try and see the obstacles as opportunities this year. Let’s see what happens when we don’t get too attached to the outcome and focus on the process instead. Let’s show up day in day out with our values in tact and get something done.

Sounds like a plan to me. Now, what’s the first next step?

2024 was a great year in thought and in music, here are some of my favorite quotes, songs and articles that I discovered in 2024, please enjoy:

7 Interesting Quotes (Not Necessarily from 2024):

“I didn’t intend to tell you anything disagreeable. Besides neither of us know why you happen to be drinking wine at this moment. That which is within you and directs your life knows already. It’s good to realize that within us there is someone who knows everything, wills everything, does everything better than ourselves.“

Demian — Hermann Hesse

“Nothing in life is wasted, unless you waste it. A failure is only a failure if you don’t learn from it. If you learn from it, it’s a lesson.” — Thomas Edison

“When you’re done changing, you’re done.”- Martha Stewart

“Tragic optimism means accepting the mess for what it is, honoring what you are going through, and working to maintain hope nonetheless. It is very important. It is not easy.” — Brad Stulberg

“I always remind people that we lift weights to improve quality of life, not just so that we can talk about how heavy the weights we lifted were.” — Eric Cressey

“The bad workouts are the most important ones. It’s easy to train when you feel good, but it’s crucial to show up when you don’t feel like it — even if you do less than you hope. Going to the gym for 15 minutes might not improve your performance, but it reaffirms your identity. It’s not always about what happens during the workout. It’s about becoming the type of person who doesn’t miss workouts.”- James Clear

“Despair is a choice, cynicism is an excuse and neither create a better world.” — Ryan Holiday
